People of Passion Since 1929
Our story can be traced to 1929 when a group of folks began to gather underneath tents to worship a God whose relentless love could not be contained inside the walls of a building. There, those folks heard the story of a God who is passionate for people and who wants nothing more than to use their lives to renew the world.
By all appearances, the church that formed out of those “tent meetings” never should have made it. Few resources, short-term pastors, and lack of a permanent location would have signaled the end for many churches. But none of those obstacles could stop the burning desire of these passionate Jesus followers.
A lot has changed in the 80 years between now and then: a permanent facility, the church family has grown, a preschool and childcare center has been created, et cetera. But, one thing has remained the same: Lafayette First Church of the Nazarene is a place where people are encouraged to ditch their status quo life and become passionate followers of Jesus for the sake of the world.
